Chin & Cheek Enhancement

Chin enhancement is a surgical procedure that enhances the projection of your chin, which adds more balance and harmony to your facial contours. When a chin is recessed, weak, or undersized, it can have a negative impact on your facial contours and self-esteem. Chin enhancement involves using chin implants or fat grafts to enhance the projection of the chin, which gives your face a better silhouette. Your surgeon will select the ideal chin implant size based on your needs.

Goals of Chin Enhancement Include:

  • Make the chin more prominent
  • Improve the sculpted appearance of the jawline
  • Improve depressions around the chin
  • Improve facial symmetry and harmony
  • Help you achieve a chiseled jawline
  • Improve the overall contours of your neck, chin, and face

What is Cheek Enhancement?

Cheek enhancement is a surgical procedure that enhances the contours of the cheeks. As you grow older, you lose fat and volume from the midface region, which makes your cheeks look gaunt and hollow. Cheek enhancement involves using fat grafts or cheek implants to enhance the midface volume and reverse the effects of age. If fat grafting is the chosen method, the surgeon harvests natural fat cells from your body and injects them into the cheeks, ensuring safe and natural-looking results.

Goals of Cheek Enhancement Include:

  • Make the cheeks look fuller and more contoured
  • Add youthful fullness to the cheeks
  • Reduce facial hollows and gauntness
  • Reverse age-related loss of midface volume
  • Reduce the prominence of nasolabial folds around the nose

Candidates for Chin & Cheek Enhancement:

  • Want to improve the overall contours of your face
  • Want to improve the profile of your cheeks and chin
  • Have a recessed/ weak chin
  • Have sunken cheeks that make you look old and tired
  • Have experienced the age-related loss of volume from the cheeks
  • Are in good physical and mental health
  • Have realistic expectations from the procedure
  • Are nonsmokers or willing to stop smoking before and after the procedure
  • Can take around two weeks off work and other responsibilities to recover

Dr. Chiodo’s Chin & Cheek Enhancement Technique

Dr. Chiodo performs a highly personalized chin and cheek enhancement surgery after a thorough evaluation. During your consultation, he carefully examines your facial anatomy, studies the degree of chin recession or cheek hollows, reviews your medical history, and discusses your goals. He also describes your treatment options for chin and cheek enhancement, including the possibility of implants and fat grafts.

Dr. Chiodo performs chin and cheek enhancement under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia in his cutting-edge operating room. The procedure usually concludes within 2 hours. The specific details of your chin and cheek enhancement will depend on the chosen technique. Regardless of the technique, the incisions are always placed inside the mouth or along the natural creases of your skin, so they’re not visible.

Chin & Cheek Implants

If an implant-based technique is chosen, Dr. Chiodo will select the ideal silicone implant and place it on your chin or cheeks via a small incision. Cheek implants are usually inserted through an incision around the eyes or inside the mouth. Chin implants are usually inserted through an incision inside the mouth or beneath the chin. In some cases, the surgeon may have to chisel away at the chin bone to accommodate the implant.

Chin & Cheek Fat Transfers

If a fat grafting technique is chosen, Dr. Chiodo will perform liposuction to harvest excess fat cells from the donor site, such as the tummy or lower back. He will make a small incision on the donor site, insert a hollow cannula, and suction away excess fat cells. The fat cells are purified and carefully injected into the targeted areas on the chin and cheeks. Dr. Chiodo uses a cannula for injection to ensure optimal precision.

Recovery After Chin & Cheek Enhancement

You can expect moderate swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and discomfort for a few days after your chin and cheek enhancement surgery. You may have to wear compression garments for a few days to reduce swelling. You can resume most of your daily activities and work after 1 or 2 weeks, but strenuous workouts and physical activities should only be resumed after 6 to 8 weeks. Please follow Dr. Chiodo’s aftercare guidelines to ensure optimal recovery.
