Teenage Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the shape, size or general structure of the nose. Teenage rhinoplasty is a nose job performed on teenagers to address cosmetic concerns that lead to self-consciousness, social anxiety, or self-esteem issues. Dr. Chiodo patiently discusses your teenage child’s goals and concerns to offer natural-looking results that conform to their facial anatomy and expectations. The decision to undergo rhinoplasty should not be taken lightly — it requires careful consideration and deliberation.

Dr. Chiodo’s Teenage Rhinoplasty Technique

Dr. Chiodo performs a highly personalized teenage rhinoplasty after a thorough evaluation. He is an incredibly personable individual who ensures teenage patients have the information and emotional support they need to make educated decisions. He carefully evaluates your nose, discusses your goals, reviews your medical history, and determines if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. If you don’t have a fully developed nose or haven’t considered the implications of the procedure carefully, Dr. Chiodo won’t proceed with the surgery.

If you’re a good candidate for teenage rhinoplasty, Dr. Chiodo will perform your surgery in a cutting-edge operating room under general anesthesia. Depending on your unique condition and the degree of modification necessary, he will make an incision inside your nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or on the strip of tissue separating your nostrils (open rhinoplasty). After making an incision, he will chisel away at the cartilage and bone tissues to change the shape and structure of your nose. The procedure usually concludes within 3 hours.

Reasons for a Teenage Rhinoplasty

Teenagers ask for rhinoplasty surgeries for the same reasons as most adults: they’re dissatisfied with the shape, size, or general contours of the nose. Since the nose is a central part of the face, even minor asymmetries and structural issues can make the face look asymmetrical and lacking in harmony. If your teenager has carefully considered the decision to undergo a nose job for several years, allowing them to proceed with a trusted rhinoplasty surgeon can offer great emotional comfort and confidence.

Candidates for Teenage Rhinoplasty:

  • Have a fully developed nose that has stopped growing
  • Are over 15 (female) or 17 (male) years of age
  • Have carefully considered the decision to undergo a rhinoplasty
  • Are in good physical and mental health
  • Have realistic expectations from the procedure
  • Are nonsmokers or willing to stop smoking before and after the procedure
  • Can take around two weeks off school to recover (summer holidays are ideal)

Recovery After Teenage Rhinoplasty

Teenagers undergoing a rhinoplasty must be prepared to take at least two weeks off school. Christmas and summer holidays offer the ideal opportunity to undergo rhinoplasty and recover completely in time for the next semester. Your surgeon will place a nasal splint on your nose to stabilize the nose shape, and you may also receive nasal packing to reduce bleeding. You will experience considerable swelling, tenderness, numbness, and bruising around the nose for two weeks, following which the side effects will gradually dissipate.
